The Poem A creature no hand drew
wanders the open field.
Everyone laughs, no one owns it,
it belongs to the passing.
Then the fences come,
quiet men measuring the air,
asking whose the dream was,
whose the profit is.
But a thing made by all of us
and none of us
keeps slipping the leash—
smoke does not sign its name.
