A person is not a parcel, yet somewhere tonight a body is being carried across a border into a country whose language it does not hold.

The Poem They loaded us like freight
into a country with no word for us.
No trial we could name,
no map that led back home.
The hotel had a lock
and men who used their hands.
Somewhere a paper was signed
by people who will never see our faces.
We are the small print
of a larger cruelty.
Remember: each parcel
had a mother once.
