We called it eternal to comfort ourselves, and now we watch the word melt back into ordinary water.

The Poem They named it eternal
as if a word
could hold the cold.
High on the green ridge,
a white that outlived
every grandmother.
Now it thins
to a rumor of itself,
running downhill
into the warm.
We keep the name.
We lose the snow.
