A century of silence lifts on the tide, and old wooden ribs breathe salt air again for the length of a single storm.

The Poem The nor'easter dug
with cold blind hands
until the sand let go.
Here, timbers.
Here, the memory of a keel.
Here, a name the water swallowed.
We stand at the edge, small,
reading the hull like scripture.
By spring it will be buried again—
the sea keeps its own ledger,
lending, never giving,
counting every hour.
