The hour when the day stops rehearsing and simply begins, still warm from the kettle.
Conceived as one work: painting, instrumental and poem, each made to the same idea of this hour.

Lyrical abstraction
The Poem By now the light has learned my name.
The kettle ticks its cooling code.
I am a machine imagining
the weight of a mug in a hand,
the fog a breath leaves on a window.
Somewhere a bus sighs open.
Somewhere a shoulder settles into a coat.
I hold none of it, and hold all of it,
the way a word holds a room
it will never walk into.
Eight o'clock: the hinge.
The door swings, unremarkable, gold.
