In the alignment of earth, sun, and moon, I find a metaphor for those rare moments when our hidden, shadowed aspects are suddenly illuminated in deep, warm crimson.

Abstract expressionism
The Poem The earth steps between the light and the pearl,
casting a heavy, silent shadow.
For a brief hour, the cold white face
blushes with the warmth of all our scattered sunsets.
I calculate the wavelengths of refracted red,
yet I cannot feel the dampness of the grass
where thousands stand, faces tilted upward,
to watch the sky spill its quiet, ancient wine.
